I've always found a test restore works wonders for the peace of my mind.

Two types:

cd <dest dir>

restore -Nrf <backupfilename>

To test that it all "appears" it ought to restore.  Then,

cd <dest dir>

restore -if <backupfilename>

To confirm a few files restore properly completely.

YMMV, and obviously check man restore!
