as far as i know there have been Nvidia maintained/improved drivers for
FreeBSD for ages ( ls /usr/ports/x11 | grep -i nvid )

and for example:

%kldstat
Id Refs Address Size Name
 1 8 0xc0400000 5ec918 kernel
 2 1 0xc09ed000 753c90 nvidia.ko
 3 1 0xc497c000 e000 fuse.ko
 4 1 0xc4b64000 2000 rtc.ko

The announcement may be about a unified driver, i don't know about that.

3. "nvidia". have X use the Nvidia supplied driver.

Works for me?

xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
    Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
    Option "DisableGLXRootClipping" "true"
    Option "TwinView" "True"
    Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "31-80"
    Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "56-76"
    Option "TwinViewOrientation" "RightOf"
    Option "MetaModes" "1280x1024, 1280x1024"
    Option "DamageEvents" "True"
EndSection

Is this not what you meant?

regards,
