From my mobo, ASUS M4A785-M, and uname -a:

Yes, I've tried GENERIC for all these issues, and also an
i386 image! Mobo problem?
I sent email remarking on inconvenient behavior on gv (no page
numbers, can't go backward) and X (from text mode back to X
sends "esc [ 2 0 ~" to stdin). Here's another, and a real
trouble spot:
I have two CD-DVD drives, one PATA and one SATA. Neither can
burn a CD, returning either busy or error. I had to burn the
8.0-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso CD on my old iBook! And yes, I
also replaced the ATA drive with one from another box.
Final issue, probably no answer. I installed a ubuntu distro
on my /dev/ad0s2, with -s1 and -s3 remaining FreeBSD (no -s4).
My boot loader shows
F1 FreeBSD (an older 8.0-RELEASE, GENERIC)
F2 Linux (new ubuntu)
F3 FreeBSD (/backup)
F5 Drive 1 (a couple more 8.0-RELEASEs :-)
When I hit F2, I get the the first FreeBSD. Linux is bypassed.
When I installed ubuntu from the CD I didn't rewrite the boot.
Could I have boot FreeBSD if I had installed grub? Perhaps I
should ask a Linux forum :-|
Many Thanks for previous help through the years,
and to Polytropon, whose suggestion about buffering some text
and testing the "esc [ 2 0 ~" behavior, didn't work, but may
lead somewhere!
