First off, you appear to be fairly new to FreeBSD. FreeBSD is not a "unix program" per-se. Think of it more as an alternative to Windows ME and you've got the right idea. Thus, you could theoretically replace Windows ME with FreeBSD. Being as you're new, I wouldn't recommend that you do that just yet. First, install both Windows & FreeBSD so they can coexist. You can run either of them, just not both at the same time. Is this the section that you had read?: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/install-pre.html If not, read it very carefully. The whole thing. Pay special attention to the section that says "back up your data" because it's very easy to destroy your Windows installation if you've never done this before.
If you get stuck, please give a more detailed explanation of where you're stuck. I could not figure out where the "arch and version" section is that you're talking about.
