teTeX is ancient and my advice would be to install TeXLive. It's not in ports but instructions for installing it can be found on the forums: https://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=9681 I think TeXLive 2010 has been released and this has binaries for FreeBSD. You can get this from http://www.tug.org/ and installation should consist of just running the installer.
