Uh, that was my bad as well. ;-/ I wonder why my entry in /etc/ttys was set to "off" ("uuuuh, it really makes me wonder..."). What makes me wonder is that xdm *does* start up correctly on my machine... I can only think of Linux having problems reading UFS-partitions, but I cannot really imagine Linux coming up with such *weird* read-errors...
