Generally hitting Scroll Lock and then PageUp works for me.
The amount you can see depends on the amount of space reserved
for it that is configured. I don't remember the parameter or
place right off hand.
You can configure options for the sc in the kernel (taken from 4.x): device sc0 at isa? flags 0x100 options SC_NORM_ATTR="(FG_GREEN|BG_BLACK)" options SC_NORM_REV_ATTR="(FG_BLACK|BG_GREEN)" options SC_KERNEL_CONS_ATTR="(FG_RED|BG_BLACK)" options SC_KERNEL_CONS_REV_ATTR="(FG_BLACK|BG_RED)" options SC_HISTORY_SIZE=512
