Did you use the package system or the ports system(pkg_add or make install). You can safely use make clean to remove all files used in the making of any sotware you compiled. You can use make distclean to remove all those tar.gz files that your machince downloaded with ether command. You could also remove the /usr/obj directory, its used for tempory storage when you buildworld or buildkernel.
