So, grab the package from one of the ftp mirrors. Look in something like ftp://ftp10.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/packages/net You will find a pre-built version that you don't have to build all of the auxillary files. Set the time with date. Get your system squared away and try using cvsup again. You will find it makes using the ports much easier.
