Welcome to FreeBSD! The platform for all Intel/AMD based PCs is i386. You may want to try FreeBSD 4.10. It is not only rock solid; it is also very easy to configure, once you get the hang of it :-) Please have a look at the Handbook: http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/index.html to get an idea how the installation looks like and how to perform typical tasks. Feel free to ask more questions here.
