Pre-9500 controllers have a hardware limit of 2TB per RAID volume. Likely that's your issue. And, before you decide to break it into 2 RAID volumes, be aware the highly optimized and blazing fast performance is *only* on the first volume. Additional volumes are very slow. Its something 3ware doesn't advertise but will usually admit to if confronted.
