Just a minor correction: Subversion is *not* a derivative of CVS. It does not share code with CVS, it is not based on the same code, and it is not related to CVS other than that it covers the same problem domain. If it were a derivative of CVS, then it'd have to be licensed under the GPL. Thankfully, it's not a derivative, and thus it's released under a much more palatable (Apache, which is a modified BSD) license.
