Sometimes *sftp* fails when your ssh login is chatty -- maybe fish suffers from the same problem. Check to see whether you have fortune, nfrm, or other such outputting programs on that host in your login scripts. HTH, --Stijn -- Help Wanted: Telepath. You know where to apply.
