Take a look at the new knobs in /etc/defaults/rc.conf for controlling
the supplied BIND9.

The rc scripts do a really good job of setting it all up for you.

I got it working...its different than I am used to with the raw ISC source compile...

Since named starts loading configuration from '/etc/namedb/named.conf'

/etc/namedb -> /var/named/etc

then I set stuff up from there...

drwxr-xr-x 8 root wheel 512 Jan 16 18:14 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 512 Jan 16 18:27 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Jan 16 18:38 dev
-r--r--r-- 1 root wheel 1279 Jan 16 17:55 localtime
drwxrwx--- 2 root bind 512 Jan 16 18:35 log
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Jan 16 17:54 master
-r--r----- 1 root bind 5015 Jan 16 18:14 named.conf
-rwxr-x--- 1 root bind 218 Jan 16 17:58 rndc.conf
-rwxr-x--- 1 root bind 77 Jan 16 17:58 rndc.key
drwxr-xr-x 2 root bind 512 Jan 16 17:57 slave
drwxr-xr-x 2 root wheel 512 Jan 16 17:57 standard
drwxr-xr-x 4 root wheel 512 Jan 16 17:54 var

This may not be the exact FBSD, but its a bit closer to what I use on other OSs and seems to work OK...

thanks for the tips!
