Just FYI. You don't need to reboot FreeBSD either for this. Just restart X in the same way if you're using gdm or kdm. The scripts should be in /usr/local/etc/rc.d If it's the standard xdm install, via /etc/ttys, then just kill the xdm process and it will restart from the tty setting.
