Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 7547, which lacks an internal CD/DVD drive. I purchased a Dell DW514 external USB DVD drive, which works in Windows, but can't be located in FreeBSD 11.0-p2. I am looking for help in getting FreeBSD to recognize the device.
Any help is appreciated, since this is an important step to using this laptop full-time as a FreeBSD workstation. Here is the information I have on my system: [fjohnson@laptop /usr/home/fjohnson]$ uname -a FreeBSD laptop 11.0-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE-p2 #0: Mon Oct 24 06:55:27 UTC 2016 r...@amd64-builder.daemonology.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64 [fjohnson@laptop /usr/home/fjohnson]$ sudo usbconfig ugen0.1: <XHCI root HUB 0x8086> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=SUPER (5.0Gbps) pwr=SAVE (0mA) ugen1.1: <EHCI root HUB Intel> at usbus1, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=SAVE (0mA) ugen0.2: <USB2.0 Hub vendor 0x05e3> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=SAVE (100mA) ugen1.2: <product 0x8000 vendor 0x8087> at usbus1, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=SAVE (0mA) ugen0.3: <USB Receiver Logitech> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON (98mA) ugen0.4: <product 0x1780 vendor 0x0b95> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON (450mA) ugen0.5: <Portable SSD T1 Samsung> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON (500mA) ugen0.6: <IntegratedWebcamHD SuYin> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=HIGH (480Mbps) pwr=ON (500mA) ugen0.7: <Touchscreen ELAN> at usbus0, cfg=0 md=HOST spd=FULL (12Mbps) pwr=ON (100mA) [fjohnson@laptop /usr/home/fjohnson]$ dmesg | grep -i usb xhci0: <Intel Panther Point USB 3.0 controller> mem 0xf7d00000-0xf7d0ffff irq 16 at device 20.0 on pci0 usbus0 on xhci0 ehci0: <Intel Lynx Point LP USB 2.0 controller USB> mem 0xf7d23000-0xf7d233ff irq 23 at device 29.0 on pci0 usbus1: EHCI version 1.0 usbus1 on ehci0 usbus0: 5.0Gbps Super Speed USB v3.0 usbus1: 480Mbps High Speed USB v2.0 ugen0.1: <0x8086> at usbus0 uhub0: <0x8086 XHCI root HUB, class 9/0, rev 3.00/1.00, addr 1> on usbus0 ugen1.1: <Intel> at usbus1 uhub1: <Intel EHCI root HUB, class 9/0, rev 2.00/1.00, addr 1> on usbus1 Root mount waiting for: usbus1 usbus0 Root mount waiting for: usbus1 usbus0 ugen0.2: <vendor 0x05e3> at usbus0 uhub2: <vendor 0x05e3 USB2.0 Hub, class 9/0, rev 2.00/32.98, addr 1> on usbus0 ugen1.2: <vendor 0x8087> at usbus1 uhub3: <vendor 0x8087 product 0x8000, class 9/0, rev 2.00/0.04, addr 2> on usbus1 Root mount waiting for: usbus1 usbus0 ugen0.3: <Logitech> at usbus0 ukbd0: <Logitech USB Receiver, class 0/0, rev 2.00/12.03, addr 2> on usbus0 Root mount waiting for: usbus0 ugen0.4: <vendor 0x0b95> at usbus0 Root mount waiting for: usbus0 ugen0.5: <Samsung> at usbus0 umass0: <Samsung Portable SSD T1, class 0/0, rev 2.10/0.01, addr 4> on usbus0 Root mount waiting for: usbus0 ugen0.6: <SuYin> at usbus0 Root mount waiting for: usbus0 ugen0.7: <ELAN> at usbus0 Root mount waiting for: usbus0 usb_alloc_device: set address 8 failed (USB_ERR_TIMEOUT, ignored) Root mount waiting for: usbus0 usbd_setup_device_desc: getting device descriptor at addr 8 failed, USB_ERR_TIMEOUT Root mount waiting for: usbus0 usbd_req_re_enumerate: addr=8, set address failed!
