Eight minutes does seem silly.  If you manage the DHCP server, by all 
means set the lease times longer.  If you do not manage the the DHCP 
server, the best you can do is request a longer lease time and hope 
that you get it.

I'm not experiencing this problem, however I don't know what DHCP 
server is being used by my cable company.

Is it possible that a change occurred on the DHCP server you use at or 
around the time of your last buildworld?
