No dice. I grabbed the latest if_bce.c from cvs HEAD, made the tweaks (provided by Jason) and rebuilt the kernel. I was able to trigger the watchdog timeout in less than 5 minutes. I did not get a kernel panic, and kernel was built with INVARIANTS and INVARIANT_SUPPORT.
