You have a corrupt entry on line 12 of /etc/master.passwd. Open
/etc/maser.passwd using vipw. Then go to line 12, and make sure that
all the fields are there for line #12.

name:passwd:uid:gid:class:change:expire:gecos:home_dir:shell

daemon:*:1:1::0:0:Owner of many system processes:/root:/usr/sbin/nologin
