I don't remember seeing where you describe your specific hardware (do Linux users report the same problem, e.g.), or offer dmesg(8) output of a verbose boot with your USB compiled in, maybe with USB debugging turned on. Could be these might offer important hints to the more clueful readers here (as would output of pciconf(8), perhaps).
