I wasn't really up to that unfortunately :( I had a look and I couldn't see it free anything, but I am not 100% sure how the libusb stuff works internally. I note that the pdev does not appear free'd but uninitialised. However I did notice that SANE has 1.0 API support and using that does not trigger this problem.
