How many channels of the 18 should jack be able to access?
Ideally, all 18. I tried with -i 18 -o 18, but I get mono (left) channel only
which is 2x the speed.

Hi,

By default virtual_oss only supports one sample rate. The -S option enables libsamplerate.

Try running this as root, assuming your DSP device is /dev/dspX .

kldload cuse

# Start virtual OSS like this. -M mirrors output from 0 && 1 to 6 && 7
virtual_oss \
 -S \
 -i 8 \
 -C 18 -c 18 -r 96000 -b 32 -s 1536 -f /dev/dspX \
 -c 2 -d dsp \
 -c 18 -d vdsp.jack \
 -M o,0,6,0,0,0 \
 -M o,1,7,0,0,0 \
 -t vdsp.ctl &

# Start jackd like this
jackd -r -d oss -i 18 -o 18 -w 32 -r 96000 \
  -C /dev/vdsp.jack -P /dev/vdsp.jack &

# You may also want to install the GUI, virtual_oss_ctl,
# which uses QT4/5:
svn --username anonsvn --password anonsvn \
      checkout svn://svn.turbocat.net/i4b/trunk

cd virtual_oss_ctl
make all
make install

Feel free to contribute manual page examples if you think the current documentation is not that well.
