took a quick gander at the isolinux configs for
debian-live-8.6.0-amd64-standard.iso
isolinux/live.cfg says
kernel: /live/vmlinuz
initrd: /live/initrd.img and to
append (kernel arguments): boot=live components quiet splash
Live (amd64 failsafe) has
append (kernel arguments): boot=live components memtest noapic noapm
nodma nomce nolapic nomodeset nosmp nosplash vga=normal

install.cfg suggests
kernel: /install/vmlinuz
initrd: /install/initrd.gz
append (kernel arguments): vga=788 --- quiet

Hope that helps.
