Once you go to FreeBSD 11.3 or 12.X you cannot get any networking at all with KVM / QEMU Q35 + OVMF. I posted bug report here: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=241774 I believe that these are all related. We need to do a KVM / QEMU / FreeBSD driver compatibility matrix, as range of options keeps shrinking as FreeBSD releases roll forward.
