I have the impression that trying to pass more traffic through the NIC
increases the frequency with which this occurs; for me, it's usually about 6 -

At this point, I believe it's fair to characterize the head (or ALPHA1_
behavior as a "regression" (vs. the stable/11 behavior), at least in my case.
