I thought of a possible solution to this issue. I prepared a patch to the thunar port, adding an option which adds an extra patch. This patches the thunar code to check if the file is on sshfs through the statfs(2) system call. I have only tested building the patch. I will not be able to test this on a running system before the week end. Anyway you could give it a spin and see if it fixes your problem.
