It's a locking problem. Looks like in linux pthread_cond_timedwait is more permissive and accepts a lock held by another thread or no lock at all. I had to rework locking a little I'm not actually sure I got it right though. Here's the patch: https://people.freebsd.org/~madpilot/xfburn.diff It's against the port. Can you test it and report back? I'd suggest you test it with a CD-RW, so you can blank them if they get burned wrong.
