 It actually seems to happen with old revisions too, ones I'm sure
used to work. So the problem has appeared because of change in my
system, not because of change in Freeciv.

 My debian box, one that hosts all the virtual servers, has suffered
HW failure, so this Ubuntu box is the only environment I can test at
the moment. I should get Debian back online this weekend.
