Details:
As discussed in bug #16500.
Current plan is to merge these two boolean options:
* "Merge the message notebook and the map notebook"
* "Split message/chat notebook area"
to a single three-valued enumeration, as having them both on doesn't make
sense.
("Arrange widgets for small displays" remains a separate boolean option. In
the "merge" configuration, this checkbox doesn't currently make a whole lot
of difference -- really, only five out of the eight possible combinations are
useful -- but I don't fancy trying to document a single monster five-valued
option.)
Patch started but not yet complete.
