Follow-up Comment #3, bug #16579 (project freeciv):
I think ` (a grave accent) is ok anywhere. IIRC we had to remove some
non-ASCII apostrophes from translated strings a couple of weeks ago, though.
As for the warnings this patch fixes: Gettext gets noisy when a regular
apostrophe - ' - is used in comments of any file included in POTFILES.in. The
warnings in this case are harmless, but they clutter the output when working
with localization.
