autogen fails on FreeBSD 8.1:

configure: error: I haven't found a working ngettext function in your
system.
Try --disable-nls. Read ABOUT-NLS.
configure failed
GNU gettext is installed:
> pkg_info | grep gettext
gettext-0.18_1 GNU gettext package
It works fine with --disable-nls.
I have a suggestion, the string:
"Now type 'make' to compile freeciv."
should be replaced. On systems other than GNU 'gmake' has to be run, as the
makefiles are GNUmakefiles.
