Follow-up Comment #1, bug #17897 (project freeciv):
Could you run with "make V=1" to see actual command line that is causing
linking failure? Have you static or shared freeciv libraries? You can test if
building the other kind helps. Version of libtool?
> nm utility/.libs/libcivutility.a | grep read_timer_seconds
> nm common/.libs/libfreeciv.a | grep read_timer_seconds
