OK, unless I'm missing something, this patch should fix the problem.
On unrelated note: I finally made progress in regard of bug #19009 - my
global theme was misconfigured, once I've fixed that, buttons/entries got the
correct background.
I think I'll see if the main problem of this bug can be fixed too.
