Details:
Use AS_HELP_STRING to format help strings in configure.ac. There might be some
strings coming from m4-files retaining their manual formatting.
AS_HELP_STRING was added in autoconf-2.58, and our minimum requirement is now
2.59. (Before that there was AC_HELP_STRING that AS_HELP_STRING deprecated,
but back when this was last looked at we supported autoconf versions where
even it was not available)
