Follow-up Comment #2, patch #5081 (project freeciv):
There was an NULL pointer references in gtk-clients this fixes as a side
product:
help_update_base() and help_update_road() used base_extra_get(pbase) /
road_extra_get(proad) before checking if pbase / proad is NULL.
Even if this patch gets rejected, at least the bug needs to be fixed.
