Indeed.
It's a tiny bit better nowadays, but in the past I wanted to simply kill it
off even with the cost of loss of functionality it provides. Getting clean
replacement would be better, but I don't know if anything has given us new
feet to stand on since this was last adjusted.
It *is* an special case, outside the scope our frameworks can reach to help.
