Follow-up Comment #7, patch #6523 (project freeciv):
Was there some specific reason for this patch for which you want it to S2_5?
We've added such checks in the past when stuck unable to reproduce some
problem and wanted information from any user encountering it, but generally we
wouldn't want to add such to already released branch. If it now fails for
anybody in 2.5.2, that will be seen as an regression since 2.5.1.
Please consider either completely reverting the check from S2_5 or turning it
into regular warning (not crashing even with -F) there.
If bugs are found from later branches thanks to this assert, fixes are as much
eligible for backporting as fixes to bugs found any other way, of course.
