Follow-up Comment #4, patch #7367 (project freeciv):

This achieves the goal of using the player name as leader name if a specific
nation is selected but not if nation selection is left random, which seems
less than ideal.

In general, I'd like to find project-wide solutions to problems like this and
patch #7368 (although I don't want to shackle Qt client to the inertia of
other clients).

I know that many (most?) multiplayer communities are finding the concept of a
separate leader name to username annoying, and I've been wondering what to do
about this for a while; I'm thinking something like a server option which just
gets rid of the concept of separate leader name completely for a given game
(with this knowledge transmitted to clients so they can simplify their UI
appropriately). Surely such a thing can't be delivered in 2.5, and maybe not
in 2.6 either though.

Maybe for 2.5 we can start with a client option "use username as leader name",
which overrides the default use of a nation-based leader name in all clients?
