which gtk folks never planned to fix, and certainly are not fixing now that
gtk2 is almost EOL.
This is the very reason --enable-debug=checks exist separate from
--enable-debug=yes. Latter can't contain -Wstrict-prototypes that break
gtk2-client compile the way you are seeing.
