Merhaba:

During our meetup this evening, the idea of self-hosted Software Freedom
project was explored.

This would mean, we rent out a "unmanaged" VM from a provider and then

install and configure
- SSH server
- WebServer
- SMTP server
- POP server
- Mailing list software
- GIT server
- IRC server
- GCC compiler toolchain env
- Database server (PostgreSQL)
- JITSI server
... any other software or service that we require.

That means patching, upgrades etc. are also our responsibility
Handling sub-domains, domain parking etc

To borrow the popular marketing terminology we are talking about going
SERVERFUL instead of Serverless !

There are multiple provider(s) available whose pricing is more value based than
ICDSoft where we currently host with for so many years. We'd like to keep the
cost Euro 5 or less on a long-term investment basis (24+ months).

eg
 - OVHCloud
 - Hetzner

Key Questions
- Which "unmanaged" VM / VPS service providers would you like to recommend for
GNU/Linux hosting (ie. ArchLinux | Debian) ?
- Would you like to explore and share your perspective from a "long-term"
Software Freedom project perspective ?

As part of your exploration, incase you reachout to a potential vendor, please
share your findings as a reply to this discussion thread.

Let the discussion roll.

warm regards
Saifi.
