Hi all,
I'm still working on the new FreeDOS distribution, being "FreeDOS beta9-final"
So far I have the following additional items (compared to previous releases) working:
*install from bootable cdrom
*install from ISO image, with help of bootdisk or bootable cdrom
*install from a directory, with help of bootdisk or bootable cdrom.
*dualboot scenario with DOS/WIN9X, NT
Still working on a complete diskette installation though, by copying the textmode installer to harddisk and then feed it one or more installation data disks.
The above progress makes installing a lot easier:
-download ISO to C:\ so you end up with C:\FDBOOTCD.ISO file.
-download bootdisk
-write bootdisk to diskette,
-boot diskette
-ISO will be mounted automatically, and FreeDOS setup acts as if it's a cd then.
-Installation will complete.
Release date is intended to be 2004-09-28 (28 September 2004), and I've delayed long enough :)
However, in order to get best results, and live up to the GPL, I could use some updated programs:
*official kernel 2035 (Jeremy, just sent a bug report to kernel list)
*FreeCOM 0.82patchlevel 4 (Steffen)
*Emm386/HIMEM latest version made official, preferably in compressed form by Tom.
*MEM 1.7 (Bart, planned very soon)
any others?
newer kernel is essential for the ISO functionality, otherwise accessing the ISO file doesn't work properly.
Bernd
