I wish you were using the config sys menu for many things, and I wish you would do something like "read hints.txt, load or devload cdrom drivers yourself, or pre-copy cdrom contents, go to cdrom or copy, go to directory INSTALL, run INSTALL" instead of spending a lot of time and effort for nice "user interfaces" for extra driver loading. 99.9% of all people will just be fine with ElTorito or a boot diskette which boots the CDROM through SmartBootManager or with precopying, using their OTHER operating systems and/or existing DOS CDROM drivers for the latter...
cdrom is perfectly usable with any other OS if you boot that other OS (from harddisk or bootdisk) and access the FreeDOS cdrom/directory.
Volunteers for testing are welcome though, just as I test your tools (as far as they don't endanger host system in any way)
What I want to do:
I have a syslinux entry called Memtest.
This runs FreeDOS (fdboot.img) image with parameter 'run' set to 'b:\special\memtest.exe'. In autoexec.bat I can detect this parameter (through GETARGS) and act on it.
However, I have the disadvantage that config.sys is handled before autoexec.bat can run. And config.sys is the only location for loading HIMEM. When user selects to run Memtest.exe from Syslinux menu, he/she still has to make a choice in config.sys , with delay of 30 seconds and option 1 crashes Memtest (because option1 loads HIMEM).
I'm considering disabling XMS altogether, but drawback is that it will make the PHYSICAL bootdisk a lot slower then, and memory usage is a lot higher (no DOS=HIGH , no FreeCOM in XMS).
I'm not that fond of writing documentation, just like most people.
Currently making a document for which programs offer NLS (KITTEN/CATS/recompile). I'll send the list to you when it's done.
