this may depend on
  file placement and free space fragmentation as
  well, where MSDOS uses an alghorithm other then freedos

  what EXACTLY is RAWSPEED measuring ? use RAWREAD, and you'll get
  different results (usually MUCH better), so RAWSPEED is probably
  measuring something else

caching is useful only, if the same data are accessed twice (at least)
else it gets only in the way.
