yes, it was committed in ASCII mode, so it is corrupt, I have corrected it to be in binary mode, but did not commit a working file as I only have a prerelease and I don't know how if at all it differs from the intended suppl.tgz

You will also notice that there is reference to a file (regardless of if the build option that enables it is choosen or not) that fails because it was not committed to cvs either.

These are both known issues with FreeCom cvs sources.

Maybe a stupid question, but did you un-gzip it first, or does untar do
 that automatically?

have a look at:
http://fdos.org/AutoIndex/index?dir=kernel/

and select a file (preferably the correct one)

Obviously I must have checked out FreeCOM from the stable tree as freecom.HEAD.zip had everything I needed to build it. Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, there is not a stable tree, only HEAD and three major branches; of the three, one is documented as merged and obsolete. I can not tell (haven't followed its development closely enough) about the status of the other two branches other than they seem merged as well???

The zip file you reference is the same sources you checked out with a prerelease suppl library and the applied patches documented within; but is probably the best one to proceed with.
