I also used to have this bug. I am not sure but I think that bug isn't in EMM386 but in kernel. I fixed it with a slightly change of CONFIG.SYS file. Make sure that you have there EXACTLY this line: DOS=HIGH,UMB
It is important to write it capitalized and without any spaces. It seems that FreeDOS doesn't process CONFIG.SYS perfectly. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Blair Campbell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "FreeDOS Devel" <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, December 10, 2005 7:46 AM Subject: [Freedos-devel] Problem with EMM386 Hi. I've been having a problem with EMM386 where I always get the message 'UMBs unavailable!' even when using the option X=TEST or I=TEST. Those are the only options that I am giving EMM386. One thing I noticed differently, though, was that this seems to happen only when I've booted kernel.sys directly by the GRUB4DOS available here: http://grub4dos.jot.com/WikiHome I can't test otherwise because SYS doesn't work on the computer I've been testing on (I've already reported the problem) Any ideas? Is this a bug? Is GRUB4DOS simply incompatible? -- Fall is my favorite season in Los Angeles, watching the birds change color and fall from the trees.
