It may be a bad idea to announce it now, but recently I made quite some
efforts to grab a copy of the classic Andrew Schulman et.al. book
"Undocumented DOS, 2nd Edition". My primary aim is to have a decent
solution to read NTFS properly under DOS. I tested about every solution
that's currently on the market, and I'm not really satisfied with any of
them. They either have bugs that noone cares about, consume tons of
memory or require copyrighted files from your Windows installation. And
I can't even start to complain about license issues :)

So I intend to implement a better NTFS reader through the network
redirector. I read that the network redirector implementation in FreeDOS
isn't really "uptodate" and more like in MS-DOS 2.11 - I'll try to
improve it where needed. Maybe I'll have to make up a new network
redirector first, time will tell. :)

For the moment, I'm busy reading the 856 pages of this incredible book.
It's a pity that it lacks the companion disks. One of them contains a
version of RBIL so it's not really important, but the other one should
contain a lot of interesting stuff.

I can't predict if, when, and how it will be done, but I'm dedicating
most of my free time to this project, because the NTFS problem is a
major nuisance to me at present :) I just thought it may be a good idea
to announce it now, before I start anything, only to inform about this
gadget being in the works.

If someone wants to join in on this, feel free to contact me. And of
course, any suggestions, questions, etc. are always welcome.

Best regards,
Andre
