Hello there,

I am trying to download the kernel binary, and I find the ibiblio
stuff a bit confusing, even if I read the list regularly (so figure
out for those that don't :)).
Here we go: I click to
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/dos/kernel/

and the first thing I see is two packages: ver 2036 and 2037.
Downloading both I happen to figure out that 2036 is stable, 2037 is
unstable.
I want the one that is in the 1.0 CD-ROM, I figure that it is 2036, so
I download it.
I think this should be clarified somehow in the directory itself
(README or such).

So I get the binary and I get... 4 kernels! (I was expecting two, but
a person which is new to FreeDOS perhaps does not know that there are
more than one).
The four kernels are:

kwc[3]86{16|32}.sys

So I suppose that WC refers to WatcomC, but I ignore what is the
difference between being 86/386 or 16/32 (in particular, does the 86
(I guess <386) and 32 make sense?).
I am looking for the kernel to be run in a 8088 PC/XT class machine.
For FreeCOM, I guess I'll have to use:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/dos/command/0.82pl3/

I'll run a small test to see wether it boots and does not lock. I will
also try to test DISPLAY and KEYB there, if anyone wants to run a
small XT test, please let me know NOW and point to me to the software
to be tested. I am not going to run throrough tests, just if it locks
or not. For the machine: no CD-ROM, soundcard or fancy things, it's
just a XT with A: 3 1/2, B: 5 1/4, no hard drive, etc.

Aitor
