Yes. And for me, second looks more sensible, because allows explicitly
differ intermediate releases (1.0 == 1.0.0) from bugfix releases (1.0.1).

See above: we may omit trailing zeros (.0).

Agreed. FreeDOS evolves not too fast, and big time is enough
_additional_ reason to increase higher version number.
