 thanks for your last answer.

 The port is almost done and I started to debug the code. I figure that it will 
take me 2 to 3 months to have a solid and reliable port. I'm using Microsoft 
Visual Studio 6.0 to debug the filesystem and I temporarily created a simple 
ram disk.

What I need to know to proceed, is how you guys configure FreeDOS at compile 
time. In particular, I need to assign an initial value to variables like: 
"f_nodes_cnt", or structures like "buffers" list, "devices"..

Also, I would like to know if FreeDOS is able to:

 1. Mount more than one hard disk
 2. Mount/Unmount hard disks dynamically
 3. Recognize partitions on hard disks
 4. Reading filenames longer than 67
 5. Reading UNICODE filenames

I do thank you guys for your help, and at the end of the work I'll go open 
source. In the meantime, the current source tree is here:
