It's very easy. You need Windows for Workgroups, though; the earlier
versions have no support for NICs at all.

In WfWg, 3.1 or 3.11, just go into Setup, add a network card, let it
scan for new cards, then when it says it's found one, or if it says it
can't find one but you can manually add one, click "have disk" and
browse to the folder with the .INF file in it. That's about it. You
may have to manually assign resources, but that's all.

(This is from nearly 20Y old memories, so I can't 100% swear to it,
but that's the outline.)
